This series of square format constructed drawings is collectively titled MOTEL, 2000/2001. It consists of anecdotal inventions that follow an erratic chronology, distilling memory and popular culture. The works combine altered vintage print material with layers of ink drawings on clear mylar. Inside each piece, moments of time and circumstance weave these characters’ pathways in relation to each other. The ebb and flow of events is knit together by the recurrent use of the word, motel – recognizable in whichever direction it is viewed.
Also included in this file are 11 watercolours, created concurrently. The original exhibition of this body of work was comprised of 50 pieces and was first shown at LOOP Gallery in Toronto Canada.
