American Beauty, South, was a street art project inspired by one historic north-south route that runs from the border of Canada to it’s terminus in New Orleans: Highway 61. Initiated to coincide with Prospect 1 New Orleans in October 2008, this project utilized the streetside walls of seven busy Motels alongside Airline Drive within city limits to showcase artist produced billboards. What began as a personal project with one motel was expanded to include 7 artists exhibiting at 7 different motels. The artworks vary in size and format (4’ x 8’ to 8’ x 16’ ) depending on the location, with all sites highly visible at street level and from the roadway.
